Reasons to Hire a Professional Christmas Light Installation Company

Seven practical reasons homeowners hand the job to a crew, and one honest reason you might not.
Published October 19, 2026Updated October 19, 2026
01

1. You stay off the roof

The most important reason is also the least glamorous. Hanging lights on a second-story roofline means ladders, height and often darkness, with cold hands and wet surfaces. A crew with the right access equipment and training does this every day.

Two-story and steep-pitch rooflines are routine for us. Height and access are built into your quote so there are no surprises on install day.

02

2. The lights are cut to your house

Retail strands come in fixed lengths. Professional lighting is measured against your rooflines and cut to fit, with spacing set so corners read as one line and nothing hangs below the drip edge.

The result looks designed rather than draped, and that difference is visible from the street even if nobody can say why.

03

3. The product lasts the whole season

We use professional-grade, weather-rated LED, which is not available at big-box stores. It is built for Texas rain, wind and temperature swings, and it holds its color and brightness through the season.

A display that looks the same in week six as in week one is mostly a matter of product and attachment, both of which are different at the professional level.

04

4. Someone else fixes what fails

Weather, wildlife and the occasional stray football take parts of any display down. With us, in-season maintenance is free and service requests are answered within 24 hours, seven days a week. Weather damage is covered.

You do not need to diagnose anything. You call, and the people who built the display come back and restore it. Our guide to what happens when a bulb goes out covers what to do while you wait.

05

5. Takedown and storage are handled

Takedown is the part of DIY nobody enjoys. We remove the display when you want it removed, and we label, organize and store the set at our facility at no extra charge. You never untangle a box of strands in January.

Because the set stays with us and is cut to your property, it returns the next season already fitted. See annual reinstall.

06

6. The price is one number

A good professional quote is a single price for the season that includes installation, maintenance, removal and storage. Ours starts at $799 for a front roofline, and roofline is priced at $6, $8 and $10 per foot by height. You can check our arithmetic with the cost guide.

07

7. You get your time back

Most single-family homes are completed in a single visit, and you do not need to be home. That is a weekend you keep, and a December evening you do not spend on a ladder.

If you are deciding, the DIY comparison lays out the full cost of each option. And one honest note: if your house is small, low and easy to reach, and you enjoy it, doing it yourself is a perfectly good choice.

08

8. The design is considered, not improvised

A professional starts by looking at the house the way a passer-by will. Which lines define it? Where does the eye go first? What should be left dark so the lit parts stand out? Those decisions are what make one house look composed and another look cluttered, and they are made before the first clip goes on.

That is why we tell customers honestly what we would and would not light. Warm white flatters brick, stone and light siding. Crisp white reads best against dark façades. Multicolor suits a traditional family home and looks better paired with white at ground level than used everywhere. The goal is a house that looks good from the street, not a house with the most lights.

Trees are part of the same thinking. We wrap trunks and primary branches rather than trying to cover a canopy, because that is what reads at night. A wrapped trunk carries the eye upward and anchors the display, while the canopy disappears into the sky.

09

9. Commercial and community properties need a program

If you manage a shop, a restaurant, an office or a community entrance, the case for a professional is stronger still. Installs are scheduled around your operating hours, multi-building work is quoted as one program with a single schedule and contact, and the set returns each year already fitted to the same structures.

For associations and property managers, the documentation matters as much as the lights. A record of what was installed where, and a single point of contact when something goes dark, is what turns a display into something an organization can manage. See what property managers need to know.

10

A fair word of caution

Not every professional is the same, and the label alone proves nothing. Ask about insurance, ask whether takedown, storage and repairs are included, and ask for the answers in writing. The guide to reading a quote has the full list.

If you are deciding between a professional and doing it yourself, the honest comparison is in DIY vs professional. We would rather you pick the option that suits your house than the one that costs more.

11

How to choose a company once you have decided

Not every company is the same, and the differences matter more than the logo. Ask what the price includes, how repairs are handled, what happens at takedown and whether the lights are yours or the company's. Ask to see photos of real, recent installations rather than stock images.

Ask how long they have worked in your area and whether they are comfortable on your type of roof. A company that mostly works on single-story homes may not be the right fit for a three-story gable.

12

Red flags worth noticing

Be wary of a quote that is far lower than the rest without an explanation. Be wary of vague pricing that cannot be tied to footage. Be wary of a company that will not tell you how repairs and removal are handled, or that asks for full payment well before the work.

Good companies are easy to ask. They answer questions plainly and put the answers in writing. If you feel hurried or confused, take that as information.

What Holiday Lights Texas puts in writing

Our quotes are based on measured footage at published rates, and they include design, custom-cut commercial-grade LED lighting, installation, a configured timer, free in-season maintenance, removal and off-season storage. We return quotes within 24 hours, usually the same business day, and service requests are answered within 24 hours, seven days a week.

You can see the rates on the cost guide and compare us to anyone using our quote checklist.

14

Putting it together

Each of these reasons is modest on its own. Together they add up to a different experience of the season: a display that looks the way you pictured, a house that is lit when guests come, and a January that does not include a ladder. For many households, that is worth more than the price difference.

If you would like to see what it would cost for your house, start with the cost estimator or call (936) 499-8984.

15

What to do next

If most of the reasons above sound like your situation, the next step is easy. Use the cost estimator for a range, or request a quote and tell us about your home. We return quotes within 24 hours, usually the same business day, and first-time customers receive $50 off. If it turns out that doing it yourself is the better choice for your house, we will tell you honestly.
