What Is Included in a Professional Christmas Light Installation?

A full-service installation is more than hanging lights. Here is every piece, and what each one saves you.

Six things that should be in the price

When people ask what a professional installation includes, they usually mean the hanging. A full-service program includes six pieces, and the hanging is only one of them. At Holiday Lights Texas the single price for the season covers all six.

  • Custom design and measurement of your property
  • A custom-cut set of commercial-grade LED lighting
  • Installation by our crew, with a configured timer
  • Free in-season maintenance, with a 24-hour response
  • Removal when you choose
  • Labelled off-season storage
02

Design and custom cutting

Your rooflines are measured and the runs are cut to length before anything goes up. Bulb spacing is set so corners still read as one continuous line, wire is managed so nothing dangles below the drip edge, and connections are planned rather than improvised.

That is what people mean by custom cut, and it is the difference between a display that looks designed and one that looks hung. There is no spare coil looped over a gutter and no dark gap where two retail strands should have met.

03

Commercial-grade product

The lighting we use is professional-grade, weather-rated LED, not product you can buy at a hardware or big-box store. It is built to stay lit through a Texas winter, with rain, wind and temperature swings, and to hold its color and brightness for the whole season.

Choice of color is part of the service. Warm white, crisp white, red and white, traditional multicolor and combinations across different parts of the property are all available, and we will tell you honestly which one suits your architecture.

04

Installation and the timer

Our crew installs with commercial-grade clips and fasteners matched to the surface, whether shingle, fascia, gutter or masonry, and never with anything that pierces the roof covering. Most single-family homes are completed in one visit, and you do not have to be home.

A timer is included and configured during installation, so the display comes on and goes off when you want without you thinking about it. If you want the lights installed in early November and left off until after Thanksgiving, we can do that too.

05

In-season maintenance

Bulbs, strands, connections and clips are our responsibility for the whole season. If something goes dark because of weather, wildlife or a stray football, you call us and we come back out at no charge. Service requests are answered within 24 hours, seven days a week.

You do not climb a ladder, you do not hunt for the dead bulb, and you do not pay for the repair. Our guide on what to do when a bulb goes out explains the process.

06

Removal and storage

Takedown happens when you want it to, whether that is the day after Christmas or well into January. The set is removed, labelled and organized, and we store it at our facility at no extra charge. Next season it goes back up the way it came down.

That also means the second year is easier than the first. Your set is already cut to your house, and you can add a tree, a gable or a walkway and have the new runs matched to what you already have. See annual reinstall for how that works.

07

What is not included

A few things are priced separately or on request, and we would rather say so up front. Wreaths, garland and bows are priced on your quote. Large or branch-heavy trees may need a custom design after an on-site measurement. Anything we find on site that was hidden or obstructed in photographs can change the final price, which is why we confirm measurements before you commit.

Pricing starts at $799 for a front roofline, and the cost guide shows how roofline, ground lighting and trees add up.

08

What each piece saves you

It helps to translate the list into your own time. Design and measurement save you the guesswork of buying the right amount of light and the disappointment of finding out in the dark that you bought too little. Custom cutting saves you the work of hiding excess wire and the eyesore of a visible joint where two strands meet.

Installation saves you the ladder, the risk and a weekend. The timer saves you the habit of remembering to switch things on and off. Maintenance saves you the chore of diagnosing a dead section in the cold. Removal and storage save you the worst part of the season, which is January with a pile of tangles.

None of these is glamorous on its own, and together they are the reason the program is more than hanging lights. They are what makes the display dependable for six weeks rather than impressive for one night.

09

Questions to ask any company about what is included

If you are comparing programs, use the same list on every company you talk to. Ask who owns the lights at the end of the season. Ask whether takedown is included and when it happens. Ask whether storage is included and where the lights are kept. Ask whether a repair costs anything and how quickly someone responds. Ask whether the lights are commercial grade and weather-rated.

The answers are quicker to compare than totals. A company that answers clearly and puts the answers in the quote has usually thought about the whole season. For a deeper checklist, see how to read a Christmas light quote.

10

Checking a quote against this list

A good way to use this list is to hold it beside any quote you receive and tick off each item. If something is missing, ask whether it is available and what it costs. The goal is not to find fault but to make sure you are comparing like with like.

Our own price includes design, custom-cut commercial-grade LED lighting, installation, a configured timer, free in-season maintenance, removal and off-season storage. If a competing price is lower, check which of these lines it leaves out.

11

What is usually extra, and what is not

Additions such as extra trees, ground lighting or a second structure are priced by the foot or by the strand and are part of your quote when you choose them. A change of design after the date has been set may mean an additional visit. We would rather say so up front than surprise you.

What is not extra for us is the maintenance, takedown and storage. Those are inside the price, which is why there is no January invoice.

12

What you do not have to supply

You do not have to provide ladders, extension cords, clips, timers, bulbs or storage space. You do not need to be home on install day. You do need working outdoor power available where the display will connect, and we will confirm that during the site check.

If you are unsure whether your outlets are suitable, tell us and we will check. Our guide to GFCI outlets and timers explains what we look for.

13

What happens if your needs change mid-season

Plans change. A family decides to host a party and wants an extra tree lit, a section of the roof is repaired and needs to be re-lit, or a gust of wind moves a strand. In each case the first step is the same: call (936) 499-8984. Maintenance is free in season, and additions are quoted by the foot or by the strand at the same published rates, so you know what a change will cost before it happens.

Knowing that the program covers the whole season is what lets you stop thinking about the lights. Everything on the list above is handled for you, from the first design conversation to the day the set goes into storage.
