Why removal and storage are part of the price
The end of the season is where DIY gets expensive in time and patience. The lights are tangled, the clips are brittle and the box goes back in the garage until next November. A professional program is different because removal and storage are part of the same price you paid in the autumn.
At Holiday Lights Texas there is no separate January invoice for takedown and no storage charge. That is the single biggest difference between a full-service program and hiring someone to hang retail strands.
You choose the day
Takedown happens whenever you want it. You can have the display removed the day after Christmas, or leave it up well into January. We schedule it around your preference and confirm the date with you in advance.
If you have an HOA with a removal deadline, tell us when you book. If you want the lights for a New Year's gathering, tell us that too. The guide to when to take lights down covers the traditional dates and the practical limits.
What the crew does on the day
Our crew takes the display down run by run, using the same access equipment as the install. Clips, wiring, trees, greenery and entry pieces are removed in a way that avoids unnecessary wear on your house and landscaping.
You do not need to be home. Just as with installation, the crew handles it and you come home to a normal house.
Labelled, organized storage
Your custom-cut set is labelled and organized by property and by run, then stored at our facility at no extra charge. It is kept safe and maintained until next season.
Because the set is cut to your house, you never store a box of strands and you never untangle one. The set comes back the way it went away.
- Removed on the date you choose
- Labelled run by run
- Stored at our facility, not in your garage
- No storage fee
- Maintained between seasons
Why year two is easier
Reinstallation is faster than the first install, because the set is already cut and fitted to your rooflines. If you want to add to the design, such as a new tree, another gable or a walkway, we cut the extra runs to match what you already have, so the two seasons look like one continuous design.
That is also why the display looks consistent from year to year. The same set, the same spacing and the same attachment points return each season. See annual reinstall.
A note on what we do not do
We do not ask you to buy the lights and keep them. The lights stay with us, and the quote covers the display, the service and the storage as a whole. If that is not what you want, say so when you request a quote and we will explain how the program works for your property.
For pricing, see the cost guide. For the full list of what is included, see what a professional installation includes.
Why labelling matters more than it sounds
A Christmas display is a set of runs, each cut to a specific edge of your house. If those runs come down jumbled, the following season starts with a puzzle. If each run is labelled as it comes down, the same run goes back on the same edge, with the same spacing and the same attachment points. That is what makes the second year quicker than the first.
It is also why storage is more than a shelf. The set is organized by property and by run, kept safe and maintained, so the product does not degrade between seasons. A strand stuffed into a bin is a strand that fails in January or the following November. A strand that is labelled, wound and kept flat is one that works.
You never see any of this, which is the point. The work happens at our facility, and the result is a display that returns the next season as if it had never left.
What happens if you want to change something
Takedown is also the moment to change your mind. If you want to add a tree, a walkway or a second structure next year, tell us. We cut the new runs to match what you already have, so the old and new sections look like one continuous design rather than two different seasons.
If you would like a different color, say so too. Because the set is custom cut to your property, many of the measurements carry over, and we will tell you honestly what can be reused and what would need to be new.
If you are thinking of moving, call us before takedown. The set is cut to your current house, so we will explain your options for the next one.
Preparing for takedown day
There is very little to prepare. You do not need to be home, and you do not need to remove anything yourself. If gates are locked, dogs are in the yard or vehicles are parked against the house, tell us when you confirm the date so the crew can reach every part of the display.
If there is anything you want done differently next year, now is the time to say so. A section that never looked right, a tree that has outgrown its wrap or a color you would like to change are all easy to note while the crew is on site, and we can plan the change into next season's quote.
Taking lights down without damaging the house
Removal is not just pulling a strand off the roof. Clips are released one at a time so that gutters, shingles and trim are not pulled or scraped, and wraps are unwound from trunks rather than cut. That protects both your property and the lights, which we will be reusing.
This is one of the reasons removal is better left to the people who installed the display. They know how each piece was attached and in what order, and they can take it down just as carefully as they put it up.
What you will notice afterwards
After takedown the house should look as it did before the season, with no stray clips, cords or ties left behind. If you see anything that was missed, call and we will take care of it.
Your set is then labelled and moved into storage at our facility. You do not have to find room for it, remember where you put it or untangle anything next autumn.
Planning next year before you forget
January is a good time to decide what you want to change. Memories of the display are fresh, you know what you liked and you remember which parts drew compliments. Send us a note or call (936) 499-8984 and we will record it against your property.

Questions to ask any company about takedown
Whoever you hire, ask three questions about takedown: is removal included in the price, who chooses the date and what happens to the lights afterwards. The answers tell you whether the installer thinks of the season as a project with a start and an end, or only as a sale. Ours are simple: removal is included, you choose the day and the set is labelled and stored for next year.
